“Belt and Road”, “Greater Bay Area” and “Shenzhen Hong STI Corridor” are the keywords recently but not everyone familiar with them. Alex WYATT, CEO of August Robotics has great stories to tell.
Alex arrived Hong Kong from Australia in April 2017 all by himself, set up the reprehensive office in Hong Kong and then he chose Huaqiangbei, Futian, Shenzhen for the R&D center. His choice in Huaqiangbei is SegMaker+, the national grade makerspace.
One of the major reason for choosing Huaqiangbei is he can find a lot of experienced engineers, both national and international, and there are one million choices of electronic goods and components. He can find the components just downstairs of the SegMaker+ with totally 42 electronic malls in Huaqiangbei like SEG Plaza. He and his team can have the prototyping and manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area.
0-1 & 1-N
Alex is no more alone and has 10+ colleagues now and got the great breakthrough last month.
August Robotics closed its oversubscribed US$3.7 million (RMB 23.5 million) seed funding round. The seed financing was led by Blackbird Ventures, and was joined by a number of well-known technology founders and investors, including Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes (through his private investment company Grok Ventures), venture capital veteran Roger Allen and prominent businessman John Wylie.
August Robotics will use the funds from the seed round to build a dedicated robot research & development centre in southern China, where the company will continue the development of its suite of specialised robots. Proceeds from the round will also be used to facilitate international expansion and build sales & customer servicing capabilities in August Robotics’ target markets overseas.
